In 2008 the RVB trialled 3 buses from brands not too common in Germany, the 3 buses trialled were: 2 Optare Solo, 1 Van Hool A330 and 1 Temsa Avenue LF. All 3 of the trials were successful but only Van Hool A330 followed with orders. The Temsa was sent back to the manufacturer and the Solos continued to operate for the RVB but 1 was taken out of service in 2012 to be used as a parts donor.


RVB continued the trial again in 2015 but with just 2 buses: Irisbus GX137 and a CNG Iveco Crossway. Unlike the last trial no orders of any bus followed, but the Irisbus/Heuiliez was retained and repainted in RVB livery. It continued to operate for the RVB until 2021 when it was replaced by Solaris Urbino 12s.
