OMSI Garbage Collector

About:

The OMSI Garbage Collector (OGC) is a small tool that allows you to delete unused Sceneryobject-Directorys and Spline-Directorys.


The tool is a command line application, which requiers an installation of the JRE, which is downloadable here: https://adoptopenjdk.net/?vari…njdk11&jvmVariant=hotspot

Usage:

1. Enter the main path of the OMSI directory and let the program read through the maps

2. See through the result with "list objects" or "list splines"

3. Remove those unused directorys with "remove objects" or "remove splines"


Disclaimer:

You should have a backup from your file since the tool might list used objects as unused and removes them, thats due to not continous encoding of the .map files.

  • Hi Nico. I installed your OMSI Garbage Collector, but although it threw up a load of splines and scenery objects there didn't seem to be any mechanism to select which ones to delete. Am I missing something (like a few extra braincells, maybe)? The only thing I did differently was downloading the Java script from a different site (see post below from Lukas; Jan 31st 2021).

Ich habe Ihren OMSI Garbage Collector installiert, aber obwohl er eine Menge Splines und Landschaftsobjekte hervorgeworfen hat, schien es keinen Mechanismus zu geben, um auszuwählen, welche gelöscht werden sollen. Vermisse ich etwas (vielleicht ein paar zusätzliche Gehirnzellen)? Das Einzige, was ich anders gemacht habe, war, das Java-Skript von einer anderen Seite herunterzuladen (siehe Beitrag unten von Lukas; 31. Januar 2021).

      you are not missing some extra braincells ^^

      There is no funtionality to specifically selecet splines/objects to delete since anything listed shouldn't be used anyway and is therefore "safe to delete".

  • Vielen Dank, endlich kann ich mal etwas aufräumen

  • Servus! Nettes Tool, ich möchte mal anregen, den Link zu Java auszutauschen und auf den entsprechenden Download vom AdoptOpenJDK (https://adoptopenjdk.net/?vari…njdk11&jvmVariant=hotspot) zu verweisen. Erstens verweist java.com auf das unfreie JDK von Oracle (andere Lizenz), zweitens wird dort nur Java8 angeboten, was doch ziemlich überholt ist.

  • Bei mir lässt sich das Programm nicht ausführen. Es ist im OMSI-Hauptverzeichnis abgelegt, aber es läuft nicht. Muss man dabei etwas beachten?

    • Java JDK installieren und schon läuft die Kiste

    • Jup, es wird die Java Runtime Environement benötigt, da das Tool in Java geschrieben ist, die Website ist in der ReadMe verlinkt.

  • Brilliant - quick and functions as intended

    The tool functions as intended and removed 7gb worth of unnecessary files within a minute. It needed an install of Java to function, but once that was sorted the program went through my files in around 15 seconds, allowed me to view a list of splines and scenery objects, and remove them. I went through my maps with appropriate tools after to make sure all requirements were still in place, and they were, so the program only removed the content that was unused.
