1. Advantages of Filebase over other hosters
1.1. Advantages for modders
- Instead of searching for MODs in the vastness of the WWW, sooner or later - so the basic idea - every add-on should be found here. From then on, it's just a matter of linking to the required AddOn's within OMSI-WebDisk.
- Picture material for the AddOn or modification is integrated directly in the download portal. No more tedious integration of image material via external pages and in any forums, because here a single link is sufficient! Also, in contrast to external hosts, image material is not deleted.
- Own administration of files to enable easy update/upgrade and, if necessary, to keep older predecessor versions.
- Reports of copyright infringements, e.g. SceneryObjects integrated into the download of one's own map without permission, are subject to proper examination and - as far as possible - attempts are made to mediate between the parties so that an agreement can be found in the interest of all "OMSIans".
1.2. Advantages for end users
- No waiting time before downloads.
- No "downtimes", because downloads are usually not deleted.
- A central download page for all user modifications including previews (images, screen shots, demos). It couldn't be simpler and clearer.
- No intrusive advertising, fake download buttons or the like.
- Location: The WebDisk servers run in Germany and the contact persons are also German. Your data is therefore protected under German law and you have a German contact person for your problems.
2. Rules for uploading files to the filebase
- Folder structure: The archive must have one of the following folder structures:
[archive]\OMSI 2\[subfolder], [archive]\[subfolder], [archive]\[name]\OMSI 2\[subfolder]. The archive must look exactly like the structure within the main directory. Upper and lower case and the space in the name "OMSI 2" must be observed! This will help users to install the modification even faster and easier. [1]
Examples:
MyMod.zip > OMSI 2\Vehicles\O405\version-moded.bus,
MyMap.7z > maps\MyMap\global.cfg,
MyPack.rar > MyPack\OMSI 2\TicketPacks\myPack\pack.otp
- English description (except repaints, miscellaneous and exchange):
An English description is mandatory. German and French are desirable but optional. If you need help with the translation, our translators or online services like DeepL will help. In order to reach international users with the modifications, descriptions should be multilingual.
- Preview image and screenshots: If there is something to see in the modification (e.g. repaints, buses, maps, not sounds), there must be pictures so that users know what to expect. No pictures from external hosts are allowed.
- Copyright: Copyright should be regarded for all files. This is especially important for maps that use Sceneryobjects and/or Splines that are supplied by third parties. Most of the time, the copyright is determined by the enclosed license accordingly. In case of any uncertainty about a file, please contact the Filebase-checker in advance.
- Compulsory release: All files are subject to compulsory release and are checked by the Filebase checkers. This may take some time. We ask you to refrain from making enquiries.
Rules are subject to change. Binding information on the current upload rules is provided by a banner above the page when uploading and the rulebook.
3. Instructions for uploading files
To upload files to the OMSI WebDisk, you have to log in or register with an account.
Then go to the filebase page.
Now click on "Add file":
You will then be on the page where you can enter all the information about your file. At the top of the box you will find the rules again (see above), but in a short version.
3.1. Upload a file
First select a file (an archive) that contains a modification. To do this, press the button "Upload" and select your file in the window that now opens.
3.2. File information
First select the category in which the modification fits.
Then upload a preview picture, this is obligatory!
Now enter the title of the modification. It should be short, but not too short.
This is followed by a short description, hashtags and a support website (see picture for more).
For additional authors, you can enter users who should also have (limited) rights to the entry. This is helpful for teams, for example, where uploads sometimes come from one person, sometimes from the other.
3.3. Additional Information
Here you generally select what you need for the modification (OMSI 1/OMSI 2, Version of OMSI, Additional (Payware-)Addons) as well as further release notes.
3.4. Licensing
Under this section everything legal for the modification is defined (for more see picture).
3.5. Description
Finally, a detailed description of the modification follows. The pictures are also included here.
3.5.1. Integrating pictures
To include pictures, click on "File attachments & pictures" below the text field of the description. Then click on "Upload" and select your pictures. Then click on "Open" in this window (bottom right). The pictures are then uploaded and automatically included in the description, provided the cursor is in this text box. Otherwise, you can place your cursor in the text box and click "Insert Preview" (smaller representation) or "Insert Original" (large representation) for each picture. If you only leave the pictures in the attachment, they will be shown as attachments at the bottom after uploading, which is OK.
If the images you want to upload exceed the maximum file size, they can be compressed using, for example, online compression tools such as Img2Go's compression feature.
3.6. Submit and Preview
With the button "Preview" you get a preview of the file upload. The button "Send" causes the file to be sent.
All files are subject to approval and are checked by the Filebase checkers. This may take some time. We ask you to refrain from making enquiries.
As long as the activation is being processed, the entry appears with a
If an entry does not comply with the rules, the respective file author is contacted by a
4. Add new version
It is possible to add new versions to existing files. Apart from the moderate additional effort, this way is also clearer for the users.
If you want to add a new version to your file, you call it first. Then scroll down to the bottom of the overview tab and click on "Add download file":
On the following page you upload your new version, enter the version number and add e.g. a changelog.
Other file information can be edited using the "Edit" button on the file overview below.
