  • Hello,

I have tried several times to make a real life map but I always end up with maps that are hard to maintain after some work. Especially because I make mistakes right at the start and when it comes to fixing then it's basically impossible. Some examples are - wrongly placed road (I use OSM) that later can't be moved since everything will "collapse" after that.

So how do you decide what's starting point of the map, how much assets (splines and objects) you prepare even before start, how do you plan your work, how much details you put, how do you work with splines and hills, how do you achieve general feel of the map and so on. I would like to hear all your tips so write whatever you consider that will be helpful!

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

I’m no expert but whatever you are making start small, junction to junction so if its a main high street use that as a base, then go from there, remember each tile is very big in terms of OMSI, keep it simple, to start with, build up one area, then see how it looks in game, back and forth.

  • I kind of do that but i think you summarized my problem - I look at the big picture a lot so I often tend to rush a crossing or placing buildings just so I can see how all of those areas fit together and maybe that's the issue. The issue that often comes up is that later, that rushed crossing or something else hard to change, makes a problem. So now I really try to focus on one area at the time with some guidelines that I set. Patience is key and sometimes I just want to finish area as soon as possible so I can move on.
