Dear community,
today, the 3rd of January 2024, we are delighted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the OMSI WebDisk.
Life story of the OMSI WebDisk
Image: First version of the OMSI WebDisk.
As early as on 13 November 2012, Wörki sent the first email to M+R-Software, the developers of OMSI and OMSI 2. The concept of a platform for the permanent storage of modifications & add-ons was well received, and the first version of the OMSI WebDisk was developed together with MarvinK and pBuch. Shortly after the release of OMSI 2, on 2 January 2014 at 16:59, M+R-Software gave the green light: "[Now that] we have finally reviewed your website, we hereby give the green light for release!" - On 3 January 2014, the OMSI WebDisk was born and went online as an officially recognised download platform for OMSI.
4 years later, on 17 May 2018, the "reboot" of the OMSI WebDisk went online. The website was ported to a more modern system and many new features were added, such as support for mobile devices.
The next milestone can be dated back to 26 April 2020. On this day, the remaining OMSI developer Marcel Kuhnt announced that the official OMSI forum (MOF) would be shut down to a minimum. As of this Sunday, the OMSI WebDisk was flooded by numerous users from the MOF, for whom the WebDisk was simply not designed. For this reason, action had to be taken quickly: Less than 2 days later, the OMSI WebDisk moved to a new server, which promises more performance and a larger bandwidth. The publisher [group]AEROSOFT[/group] also actively supported us there and continues to support us financially to this day.
The OMSI community simply deserves a good and active forum and we at Aerosoft will continue to support it [...]. We currently see not only a stable community around OMSI, but above all a growing community internationally and we will continue to support it.
After the migration, some concepts from the MOF were also introduced in the OMSI WebDisk at the request of the community, including the OMSI-Expert user group. They provide the community with high quality support for issues of all kinds.
Unfortunately, not everything went as smoothly as we had imagined in autumn 2020. The OMSI WebDisk management team, which was still small, was limited in terms of time for personal reasons and a lot of the work were carried out by specific individuals. This resulted in a number of wrong decisions. For this reason, the team was reorganised in October 2020. Among other things, the previous (co-)administrators were reorganised and the position of Filebase checker was added. The rules and regulations were also introduced to provide all users with binding guidelines.
The OMSI WebDisk has not only established itself as a download platform, but also as a networked community for OMSI players. Thanks to the presence of the [group]AddOn developers[/group], the [group]control centre[/group] with its control centre events and the close contact to the publishers of OMSI, we offer a unique meeting point for all OMSI enthusiasts. We look back proudly on the past 10 years and are glad that the OMSI WebDisk has made it this far.
Over the past 10 years we have experienced ups and downs, but together we have overcome challenges and made the OMSI WebDisk what it is today.

Anniversary event: Game night on our Discord server
On the occasion of this anniversary, a game evening will take place next Saturday, January 6, 2024. Starting at 6 pm, we will begin the evening with exciting OMSI challenges such as a race or a driving safety test on Berlin-Spandau. Afterwards we will play other games such as Among Us, GeoGuessr or Codenames. At midnight it is time for the award ceremony: Who did the best?
To take part, you must be a member of our Discord server. Once there, you will find the #game-roles channel under the "Configuration" category. There you have to react with the game controller emojy (the WebDisk account must be connected to Discord).
The games evening will mainly be held in German.
We remain at your service,
James
and the entire WebDisk Team.
