1. Scope of delivery
The Mercedes-Benz O405 is presented as a solo bus in the OMSI 2 add-on Hamburg. Two different versions from Hamburg are presented: the version of the Hamburger Hochbahn (HHA) as the main vehicle and the version of the subcontractor of the Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein & Pinneberger Verkehrsgesellschaft (VHH PVG). The lines 109 & 688 are drivable. Also several AI/AI vehicles, objects and splines were included. In the course of this article additional information about the OMSI 2 map Hamburg will be presented.
Small additional note: All included vehicles were published without brand logo due to the missing licenses. This can be changed with a small modification. [*] [**]
Hamburg Day & Night (Real Map)
The map of the Hamburg Day and Night add-on is very detailed and features a large number of streets, buildings and landmarks that are modeled after the real city of Hamburg. The graphics (textures) are very good and the environment is designed very realistically, which makes the gaming experience even more intense.
The add-on includes numerous districts of Hamburg, such as St. Pauli, Elmsbüttel, Wandsbek and Altona. The map is very large and offers a large number of streets where the player can demonstrate his driving skills. Particularly impressive is the representation of the port of Hamburg, which has been designed in great detail and creates a unique atmosphere.
Apart from the well-known landmarks such as the Michel or the fish market, the add-on also offers numerous other interesting places to discover. These include parks, shopping malls and historical buildings.
The stops are positioned exactly as they are in the real world, and the passengers are animated and interact with the player.
Overall, the Hamburg Day and Night add-on offers a very realistic and detailed recreation of the city of Hamburg, allowing the player to experience the city from a completely new perspective.
With an update, the map Hamburg Day & Night became Hamburg Innovation Line 109, in this update the route of the line 109 was adjusted and charging columns were placed at the final stops. These charging columns charge the E-buses via a pantograph mounted on the roof (Unfortunately, OMSI 2 can not realize this, so the charging column is only deco.). In addition, a break area was added at the main station/ZOB, where the buses can spend their break.
1.1. List of lines
109 U-Alsterdorf 🔛Hauptbahnhof ZOB
688 Rathausmarkt 🔛Bahnhof Hamburg-Altona
Line 109 started operation in 1976 after the abolition of streetcar line 9. Line number and route remained largely unchanged. However, the line no longer runs to Fuhlsbüttel Airport, but now ends at the Alsterdorf subway station. Mainly articulated buses run here (since 1983); however, you will also meet solo buses from time to time. In the game, only the 12m solo buses were implemented for technical reasons.
Until 2011, the line was operated from the depots Mesterkamp and Wendemuthstraße. On weekdays you will find 14 circulations at the same time, on weekends there are a few less. During rush hour, the trips go from the main station to Alsterdorf, in the morning and at night sometimes only to Rathausmarkt or Winterhude Markt. A trip can take up to 36 minutes during rush hour.
If you are not yet familiar with Hamburg, just turn on Route Helper (yellow arrow in the menu bar). The trip from Hauptbahnhof to Alsterdorf out of town starts at Hauptbahnhof on the large road bridge over the railroad, as this is where the break point for this line is. Take the second entrance on the right onto the ZOB; the line starts at the far end. In Alsterdorf, wait in the middle of the right-hand paved bus stop strip and simply put a car length ahead after the break.
The night bus line only runs on Friday-Saturday and Saturday-Sunday nights between 7pm and 4am. In reality, it has been running since 2006 and in fact only between 1 and 4 a.m.; however, this was changed somewhat in favor of the gameplay. However, the frequencies and travel times are the same. Since this line only has a 16 minute headway and relatively thin headways, one round trip per day is sufficient here. Operated by the PVG Schenefeld, mainly 12m solo buses of the vintages 1994-2001 drove here. In OMSI, the vintage 1994 is available for this purpose.
If you are not so familiar with Hamburg, just turn on the Route Helper (yellow arrow in the menu bar). The journey from Rathausmarkt starts at the side of Rathausplatz, as this is where the line breaks. Go around the big middle building through the two one-way streets and pick up passengers at the shorter bus stop towards Jungfernstieg. At Gänsemarkt, the line splits from the 109 and heads diagonally left onto Valentinskamp. It gets interesting when the route splits between Millerntorplatz and Bf. Altona, so that you drive through different streets depending on the direction of travel. This is mainly due to the many one-way streets in St. Pauli. In Altona, just wait on the left side of the bus station. When the break is over, move to the right side (by the long-distance station/taxi stand) and pick up passengers. On the way into the city, you then cross the Reeperbahn and meet up again with the other route towards Altona at Millerntorplatz.
1.2. O405 Hamburger Stadtbus 12 m (HHA)
In 1993 (car number 13XX) and 1994 (car number 14XX), HOCHBAHN purchased 71 low-floor buses with a length of 12 m and 2 doors. 5 vehicles were used as driving school vehicles for the recruitment of new driving personnel. The equipment in those years was mostly identical with the purchases of other transport companies. A tachometer was not yet common in those years to be installed in city vehicles. Contrary to popular belief, these vehicles did not have a 4-speed, but a 5-speed transmission with locking steps for gears 1,2 and 3. The mechanical TIM printer was replaced by a digital EFAD in the late 1990s. Otherwise, digital radio and GPS for tracking by the operations control center were introduced after the turn of the 21st century. Over the years, some things were changed for technical and operational reasons. The green plaid upholstery was replaced with red and blue graffiti upholstery, the power wheelchair ramp was converted to a folding ramp due to maintenance issues, and the passenger information system was updated with a two-line LED interior display in the front of the vehicle and automatic stop indicators. The original and later trim levels are shown in the simulator for '93 and '94; in reality, of course, delivery took place over a longer period. All 71 vehicles were ultimately retired and sold between 2007 and 2009.
1.3. O405N Hamburger Stadtbus 12 m (VHH PVG)
The 20 vehicles of the 94 series at PVG Schenefeld were low-floor buses. They were all equipped with gray interior design, 4-speed automatic transmission, tachometer and ATRON ticket printer.
In addition, there was air conditioning in car 0524 and driving school facilities in car 0548. Originally, there was an electric wheelchair ramp on all vehicles, but due to susceptibility to failure, this was converted to a folding ramp on all cars except 0548.
Unlike the HHA, the PVG cars do not have a special ignition key but the standard start button. The vehicles were registered in May 1994 and (except for Wg. 0548) were retired in 2009. For this vehicle there is also an alternative paint scheme (blue-white), which was applied to some vehicles after advertising changes.
