Add-ons disappeared after re-installing the game

  • 1. Which programme do you have a problem with? (Main application, editor, SDK tools, etc.)

    Main application

    2. Please describe the problem in as much detail as possible. What happened or what might have led to the error?

I encountered a power outage while OMSI was loading. When I was able to restart the computer, Steam decided to re-install the game. As a result, I can only use the core game and the DLCs downloaded from Steam, but the freeware maps and buses downloaded from other sources no longer appear in the game. All the files are still there, in OMSI folders (plus, I have a backup of some of them that I did a few months ago), but they do not show up in the drop down menus in the game, so they clearly cannot be used. So, does anyone know if there are any alternatives to re-installing everything? I'm not really optimistic, but it would be quite helpful, considering the amount of buses and maps that I had and that some of them are not available on the internet any more.

    3. Please add a log file to your post, either in a spoiler, code block or as a file attachment.

The log file is completely blank, not a single line of text in it.

    4. If there is a helpful screenshot of the problem, you can upload and include it as a post attachment.

Interestingly, a second OMSI icon (see screenshot) appeared in the Start screen after the game got re-installed. However, the game is installed in only one directory, in the only Steam library that I have, no double installation.

Thanks a lot in advance! / Vielen dank! / Merci beaucoup!

  • That whole thing sounds weird.

Did you check if maybe steam installed into another path? If the 'standard' path for steam now differs from the one when omsi was initially installed this might happen.

That's exactly what I thought as well and the first thing that I checked yesterday. Everything seemed to be where it should, I made sure that there was only one Steam library in my computer, so I concluded that this was not the issue and the game was where it was supposed to be. However, your message prompted me to check again. I used the "check local files" feature on Steam at it does actually send me to the path C:/Programs (x86)/Steam/Steamapps/common/OMSI2, where regular programmes are installed, but clearly not a Steam library. In this folder I can indeed only see the core game and the Steam DLCs, but not the freeware add-ons. Also, the logfile is not blank here and it records the last time I opened the game, with no particular issues (a blank log file was very very weird...). I have no time at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is now. Will try to find a way to solve it later in the evening. Thank you so much indeed!

  • Maybe you could tell steam to "move" the installation path to where it was befort steam went wild...

This would erase the files from the incorrect path and your game should be where you want it to be.

  • I tried, but it says that it's not possible because the folder is already existing (well, thanks, steam, I had already figured that out ^^). I'm considering manually making a backup of the game, uninstalling and re-installing it again, making sure that it goes in the right folder.

  • Just as you know, it worked! I made a backup first (you never know...), then I uninstalled the game and subsequently re-installed it again in the right path. It works just fine now, with all my buses and maps. Thank you so much for your help! :)
