  • Type of project: Map [fictional]

    Project name: Alto da Boa Viagem

    People involved: O530 Carris PT, et. al.

    Estimated release: Late 2020 to 2021

    Details: Welcome to Alto da Boa Viagem, a fictional rural / overland map which is located in Western Portugal region (Lisbon and Southern Santarém districts, more precisely). This map has a main town (Vlia Franca, tribute to Vila Franca de Xira) with an main station, located in a fictional railroad branch (Estação Central de Vila Franca, which is the terminus of the forementioned fictional Tagus Branch), which has bus services provided by CP (the railroad operator, which in this map operates also buses), which connects this station with the towns and villages in the region, but also other stations located in both East Line and West Line (these ones have nothing to do with the real ones in Portugal), placed in the region.

    I finally came with the right decision to move my progress update of my map to the OMSI WebDisk. To see some additional details, and the previous progress on the construction of the map, go to this link here.

    This map has 9 interurban routes (local, express and limited routes, divided by 4 groups, the groups are numbered after the main route of the group):

    (1) - Route 9371 group (servicing between Vila Franca, Est. Central and Porto da Boa Viagem):

    - 9371 (local, main route);

    (2) - Route 9372 group (servicing between Vila Franca, Est. Central and Vila de Almeirim (Fictional), Mosteiro - This route crosses the Lisbon-Santarém district border):

    - 9372 (local, main route);

    - 9372X (express route, only stopping at 50% of the stops of local route, it has the same terminii);

    (3) - Route 9373 group (servicing between Vila Franca, Est. Central and Vila de Frades):

    - 9373 (local, main route);

    - 9373S (special express route between Xuanzang-Campo Grande's supermarket and Vila de Frades);

    - 9373X (express route, only stopping at 50% of the stops of local route, it has the same terminii);

    (4) - Route 9374 group (servicing between Porto Alto, Praça Central or Vila Franca, Est. Central and Vila de S. José, Estação - The express route crosses the Lisbon-Santarém district border):

    - 9374 (local, main route, terminating at Porto Alto, Praça Central from Vila de S. José);

    - 9374X (express route, only stopping at 50% of the stops of local route, extended to Vila Franca, Est. Central from Porto Alto, maintaining the other terminus at Vila de S. José. This route also doesn't stop in Colónia de Mecha);

    Buses which will be used: the bus which I felt adequated to be used was the Mercedes-Benz O 307 v2 of Perotinus. But another Ai-Lists (for the earlier O 307 (v1.2.1), the Setra S215UL, MAN NL202/NG272, MAN ÜL, MB O 407, Mercedes-Benz O 305 G (with Bahnbus-mod) in combination with the forementioned Mercedes-Benz O 307, or even lightweight AIs (Solaris Urbino 12 MEP)), aswell Mercedes-Benz Citaro Ü & GÜ will be considered. The New Flyer DE60LF from Chicago Downtown will NO LONGER be considered for the map.

    When finished, this map will likely be one of the largest intercity maps in the game.

    Addons required: Citybus O305 by Rolf Westphalen [payware, for both the O 307 buses from Perotinus and some sceneryobjects], Great Grundorf v2.01 by 3D Transport Studio [freeware, for some objects], Bad Kinzau 3.13 by Jan Kiesewalter/pBuch [Freeware, for the Kroneberger Schloss object].

  • Well, the progress on the map continues. After an optimisation and reworking of three notoriously laggy zones [more will still to come yet], I will showcase the updates done to these zones on May 18th, as well announcing that the decision to drop out the DE60LF from Chicago will be official.

    The scenerisation works to the line 9373's circuit will continue tomorrow [between Benfica-a-Nova and Infantado, including the Xuanzang-Campo Grande supermarket inlet], May 17th, after completing the last reworking of São Brás, which will be done in the same day.

  • These screenshots, collected in May 18th, cover the re-scenerisation for optimisation purposes, between São Brás and the interchange between EN111 and EN111-3, and between Vila Franca and Alvito, as well the road changes to one of the splines and to sceneryobjects between Aveiras de Baixo and Benfica-a-Nova. The process will now turn to Blender for creating objects such as a recycling point [I now have Blender installed].

    NOTE - The road continues after that tile, but the angle wasn't able to catch it.

    One of the changes here done is the incorporation of a Catholic Church near the village of São Brás

    Other of the changes was the replacement of the tree layout in this area, and the adding of crash barriers on the larger road, able to withstand road speeds up to 90 km per hour.

    NOTE - The RQ 20 based spline has yet to have its textures changed.

    Other of the changes to this area was adding an underpass between bus stops, in order to avoid the cars which are running at 80 km per hour.

    A revised 11m asphalt spline has been done in order to at least recover the style which I had before being unable to play OMSI 2.

    Another change was the optimisation of part of the scenerery between Vila Franca and Alvito [section of the route 9373], known to be quite laggish.

    This had to be done in order to reduce the hotspots where FPS drops may be frequent. However, the new map still retains the detail level [however, it still has to be finished and some details are still yet to be corrected].

  • Even after these screenshot sessions, the progress of the map continues. The scenerisation works between Benfica-a-Nova and the inlet of the supermarket zone of Xuanzang-Campo Grande has concluded today, with the scenerisation of the crossing from Benfica-a-Nova and Xuanzang-Campo Grande/Infantado being now focused on the section which goes to Infantado. The recycle point, one of the first objects of the map has already been constructed. I was also able to recover some of the .x files [I need to download Blender 2.49 to retrieve them into an editable thing].

    A screenshot presentation will be made on 5th June.

  • These screenshots, collected in June 5th, covers the scenerisation of the road between Benfica-a-Nova and the crossing of the EN114-2 and EN7, the road to, and the inlet of the supermarket zone of Xuanzang-Campo Grande itself. The process also includes the test of the roadsigns which will likely be used on this map as well. The bus used on the shots is the Mercedes-Benz O 303-15 KHP-L of Perotinus.

    One of the roadsigns being considered for the map:

    And here it is the town of Xuanzang-Campo Grande and its supermarket:

    And here it is the line 9373's roundabout segment in its journey towards Infantado:

    Additional information: the 1st phase of the scenerisation process will now go into an a slightly accelerated phase in order to have it ready for phase 2: signs, additional street side objects and, the most important, bus stops.

  • Well, the progress on the map has continued. There was a so-called "Operation Salvaterra Ridge" to optimise the map on the Salvaterra zone in conjunction with the progress done in Infantado, which has already been constructing at a good pace, with conclusion expected already between the end of this week and the beginning of the next week.

    The MAN NÜ 313 of MTB will also be added to the options for the AI-lists. This publication will cover both the changes to the line 9372's section of Salvaterra and 9373's Infantado section.

    UPDATE - due to a redesign of the Infantado area, the screenshot publication will be delayed until 30th June. The redesign will include a territorial post of the Guarda Nacional Republicana and also an additional bus stop for the line 9373, precisely located there.

  • These screenshots, collected in June 5th, covers the scenerisation of the town of Infantado, as well the corrected sections of Benfica-a-Nova and Salvaterra [where previous FPS drop hotspots were present]. The scenerisation process encountered an issue with objects attached to a non-existant spline, which were already resolved in due time. The buses used in the shots were Arne J.'s Iveco Crossway LE and V3D's MAN Lion's City A20 Ü.

    First, we start with the optimisations done to Salvaterra's agricultural zone. Less objects, but more diversity in the use of them.

    Here it is the new Infantado section. Remind that there'll be another round of scenerisations, focused on adding bus stops, car parks, and signs.

    Infantado's main civic park, its civic center and, in the back, the territorial post of the Guarda Nacional Republicana, which I have yet to create an object [but that is relatively simple].

    Here it is a factory of processing peanuts of Infantado, there'll be a scenery where is filled of peanut plantations which the line 9373 passes by. It is not fully ready yet.

    And now, the optimisation of the scenerisation of Benfica-a-Nova's agricultural zone. The older trees were replaced by moving forward the backdrop a little bit.

  • UPDATE of 2020-07-07: Some screenshots were changed in order to comply with the new rules about this matter.

    Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. - John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States [1917-1963]

  • Even after these shenanigans with the game itself, the progress of the map has continued in full force. After some rework at the Infantado's North residential zone, the scenerisation continues with the incorporation of the already mentioned peanut plantation in the zone, and to the zone of Castelo de Bode. This village has a castle built in the 1500s-1600s, but which was modernised in the 1970s. The zone around a village has also a natural park around a lake which was formed on the site of a extinct volcanic caldera. This natural park, and the castle on the village itself, attract tourists year-round. Remind that this scenerisation process is just the first phase of the entire process.

    A screenshot publication will occur on 15th July, which will cover the scenerisation process done until then.

    Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. - John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States [1917-1963]

  • As promised, here it comes the screenshot publication which reports the progress of the scenerisation of this map, between Infantado and Castelo de Bode, including the natural park around the Lake of Castelo de Bode and its palace/castle, the peanut plantation near Infantado, and the update to the Infantado north residential zone.

    This screenshot publication has 8 screenshots.

    First, let's start with the update to the north residential zone of the town of Infantado. It has now fences around the houses which composes this complex, but some of the houses previously here were removed in order to make this change possible in first place.

    Now, heading towards Castelo de Bode, here it is the peanut plantation I was talking about. It is not a real thing, but because of the lack of a sceneryobject for this matter, I had to be creative and use textures for it.

    This plantation has also a hallway of trees, giving a nice look to the road. As here:

    Now, into Castelo de Bode, It has a bustling village, motivated by the tourism located in the site, which attracts thousands of people year-round. It has also a fruit plantation located at the southeast of the village.

    And now, the first of the most important attractions of this village. The palace/castle of Castelo de Bode. Built in the 1600s, it is known by its baroque architectural style and expansive windows, which was one of the reasons that prompted a renewal of the building between 1979 and 1982.

    [Warning - Object from Jan Kiesewalter's/pBuch's Bad Kinzau 3.0, you'll have to get the add-on in order to be possible to use ABV]

    Now, into the natural park. You'll repair that it has a forest guard post, for the forest guard in the region of the central-west Lisbon.

    Now, entering in the proper park, you may know that has an entrance with a bus loop, which the line 9373 will use for its journey either to Vila Franca or Vila de Frades. The bus stop has also a tourist information booth for info about the park.

    And here it is the park, seeing from the village's perspective. It doesn't look like a big park, but it actually extends to the crossing of EN7 and EN102 northwards.

    Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. - John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States [1917-1963]

  • Concluded the north side of the Castelo de Bode Natural Park [even though that still has to be furnished in some areas], the scenerisation arrives to the end of its first phase at Vila de Frades. This location has a railroad station, serving the fictional West Line, placed on an overpass, constructed after the collision between a train and an automobile which occurred in 1983. This railroad station serves the western part of the region, including via the line 9373 [as you may know, this station is placed on Zone 9 of the CP-MTB's fare zoning system, even though its 30 km away from Vila Franca].

    Some splines there will also have to be uniformised, since with the change from the original plan of making a station in a plain zone, the splines used became somewhat unconsistant [RQ 15.5 splines with sidewalk still looking like the original ones, older style 8m splines, even some 8.5m splines which had to be gotten rid in the process].

    A screenshot publication will be made on 10th August, detailing the process.

    Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. - John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States [1917-1963]

  • As promised, here it comes the screenshot publication which reports the progress of the scenerisation of this map, between Castelo de Bode and the end of the line 9373 and its derivatives, Vila de Frades. This will also include the north side of the Castelo de Bode Natural Park. This ends the first phase of the scenerisation, which will now move towards adding bus stops, street lights, street signs, among other important things.

    This screenshot publication has 8 screenshots.

    First we will start with the railroad station of Vila de Frades. It is placed on an elevated track due to the infamous 1983 collison between a train and a automobile which occurred in that year. The buses will change direction on the appropriate loops built some metres away.

    Now, looking to the town itself, it has an important square [Praça 25 de Abril de 1974], which has also the administrative building of the entire municipality. It has also a library, an market open to the general public, which also resides another batch of administrative functions, such as a postal service.

    Another of the attractives of the town is the sports complex. It has an indoor pavillion, a swimming pool, three basketball fields and a football field. In the back, it has a former factory, now converted to mixed use.

    Now, in the zone around the north side of Castelo de Bode's Natural park, it has an agricultural zone, which is really close to the park itself.

    To increase the security of the people arriving to the north side of the natural park, coming from Castelo de Bode or Infantado, there's an underpass for crossing the road without the risk of being hit by a car at 80 km/h.

  • After completing the first phase of scenerisations, I've now put forward the second one. This phase will include the inclusion of some detail objects [bus stops, shelters, lights and helpers], and also the roadsigns which are part of the map. This phase will also include some optimisations to boost performance, and uniformise with the style of the sections of the lines 9374 and 9373.

    The first line to see its route being actually constructed is the 9371, which operates between Vila Franca and Boa Viagem [I'm already placing the bus stops, helpers and shelters along the route, and I will use StationLinks to create the line itself]. A screenshot publication is expected to occur in the next two weeks.

    The next screenshot publication will occur on September 22nd. Detail work has delayed the process of scenerisation of the map, but that issue is already resolved.

    My apologies for this delay.

  • As promised, here it is the screenshot publication reporting on the progress of the map construction. This report will focus on the creation of the first line per se, the 9371 and its 9371L variant. Remind that the 9371 has priority 1 and the 9371L has priority 3. This map has also undergone some optimisation upgrades in Vila Franca and along the route 9371 itself, along the placement of traffic signs, traffic lights, lights and other detail objects. The bus used in the shots was the Mercedes-Benz O 307 v2, although I only drove the bus with the NobuBus livery. The buses with the CP livery are AI units.

    This screenshot publication has 11 screenshots.

    First, we'll start with the optimisations done in the Vila Franca area. They comprise mostly of replacing some heavier components with lighter sceneryobjects, and reducing the number of objects used. The area surrounding the station was also submitted to optimisations as well.

    Now, the two routes themselves - Like all routes, they will use Perotinus's Mercedes-Benz O 307 v2, with CP repaints made by myself, like the bus pictured below [a 1981 version of the bus].

    Now, along the route, the former roundabout existing on Cadaval-o-Novo's EN113 route is replaced with a proper loop for buses. The same loop is also used in the Hospital stop of Vila de Garanhos as well. The scenerisation also entailed some tweaks to the scenario as well.

    In the journey to Vila de Garanhos, I've managed to optimise the sections of the map, although without losing too much quality. The corner of the EN7 road is one example.

    In the town itself, the optimisations went further, with a secondary street becoming only for residents, and with the scenery pushed further south.

    There was also the addition of a sports park in the town, with a car park added as well.

    Down to the Cruz de Ferro and Fresca do Norte's towns, you can see that the roadsigns for corners are already applied along the route, as well the road markings.

    Optimisations were also done in this section.

    In Fresca do Norte itself, there was also optimisations to the scenario, with the Steven objects replaced due to their textures.

    The crossing of Fresca do Norte [EN116 and ER120] to Boa Viagem also got new traffic lights as well. As you are reminded, the route 9371 operates from Zone 1 to Zone 7. The Fresca do Norte stop ends/starts the zones 5 and 7.

    And the terminus, the Boa Viagem, Porto is located on the port town of Boa Viagem. It is also the terminus of the limited-stop service as well.

  • After some deliberation, I decided to remove the line 9371L from the map. The local route itself is too short and too fast for a limited-stop route. Back when I made the line 9371's route and spline, I wasn't really aware of how a rural map for OMSI 2 was composed [I had only experience with Tettau, and even that wasn't really good]. Only when I started making the 9372 and its variants, I started to grasp the reality of it. Even though the route 9371 loses its limited-stop variant, the routes 9372, 9373 and 9374 will not lose their express services.

    Maybe the 9371 will have a express version when a new version of this map is available.

    My sincere apologies for this change. The creation of the route 9372 and its variants, however, will start this Monday.

  • The work on the map has continued, even after a month of no notifications. The line 9372 and its express counterpart's lines are now being created by adding the bus stops and other detail objects that didn't make in the first phase. It is expected to be concluded on December 1st.

    The map has also been subject to some minor modifications for optimization efforts, and a certain industrial building was also added in some towns and villages, in order to get the detail objects [in this case, electrical wires] better placed. The town previously known as Colónia de Mecha, part of the line 9372/X and 9374X, is renamed as Mecha do Ribatejo.

    By December 1st, an announcement of the next screenshot publication will be made.
