  • As a content creator, I am always interested in the community's reaction and feedback towards the mods that I create.

In this frame of mind, I recently thought about a graph that shows how many times an addon from the Webdisk has been downloaded per day since it was uploaded/updated (and in the case of more files per addon, maybe a graph for each file).

It would be a nifty tool to have and it would also increase the transparency of the website towards its users.

What is your oppinion on this?

  • For example, you know, that 100 users downloaded your file today. Yesterday they was only 90 users. And now? What's the use of these information?

  • The use of this information is to compare the interest shown in different contents created. More simply put, to see the "download curve", not just the total number of downloads. Facebook uses this kind of information for page analysis stuff.

The very least that can be done is to show the exact number of downloads even after 1000, and then "hardcore" modders can write that information down to make an analysis of their own. As far as I'm concerned, "1.2k" isn't too relevant, because it can mean 1201 or 1298. If I see "1.2k" for a few days in a row and then "1.3k", I have no idea if there was a surge of downloads in a matter of hours or a constant growth over said period.

  • Okay... so, you mean something like that?

    x-axis: day

    y-axis: number of downloads

Every line is one file, that you have upload

  • The whole thing is propably quite nice, as long as it's technically feasible. But in the end, what do you get out of the statement that 37 people downloaded the bus on Monday?

Personally, I consider the indication of the total number of downloads (also for indication in thousands) to be meaningful enough and sufficient.

  • In another thread, the suggestion has also already come. The result was that more accurate analysis data is theoretically possible, but there is currently no plugin that picks up the data:

Most recently, there was only a list of who had downloaded what (as a third-party plugin). But there is not yet something like you want.

Since in the database is already stored when who has downloaded an entry, this can be implemented certainly. Only problematic it is with the guests, but I'm just unsure whether there is also a log and whether the counter goes up there at all.

This would first have to be analyzed and tested in more detail. For this, however, we currently lack the capacity and would be put in the back.
